The sponsor of Palanichami, Abdul Redha, has agreed to financially help the family and also make arrangements to send his body to India in a couple of days.
When asked as to how much he intended to pay, he said that whatever was due and some more would be paid.
Palanichami had been earlier working with a company for five years and had recently shifted to his new job.
The public prosecutor had earlier said that the case was being treated as one of suicide. This was substantiated by the autopsy report, which ruled out murder and called it a clear case of suicide.
Abdul Redha told the Tribune: “I have not received an official report from the police. I am waiting for the report so that I will carry on my duty. It is a tragic loss for our company. The workers are in a state of shock and some of them did not report to work. Many workers have decided not to go for their annual vacation due to the accident.”
Sources who went to see Palanichami’s body in the Salmaniya Medical Complex told the Tribune that there were no marks of injuries on the body though there were marks of the rope around his neck.
His colleagues though were sceptical and have begun to ask questions. “All of us had tea in the morning and left for work. In the afternoon we get the news that his body was found hanging in Janabiya. Why would anyone tie his hand and feet and commit suicide? We have written an application to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to intervene in the matter. He had no enemies and was friendly with everyone.”
Palanichami’s roommate informed his brother who collapsed when he learned about the incident. “I called the family and his brother (Veera) who started to cry and dropped the phone. His mother informed me that he had collapsed and inquired what has happened. They are requesting for the body to be sent back home so that his last rites can be performed at the earliest.”
